MSU student shot and killed off campus

   Dominique Nolff, a student at Michigan State University, has died after an off campus shooting.     The shooter also shot and injured Corbin Holwerda, Nolff's roommate, but he was released by the hospital shortly after.     Police are still searching for the shooter. 

Indonesian volcano erupts

   Mount Sinabung erupted early this morning killing at least 11 people. More to come as reports arrive.      Update: 14 people have been confirmed dead from the volcano eruption. The volcano has not seen activity prior to this event in hundreds of years.  

George Zimmerman to box with famous rapper

   George Zimmerman, the man behind the Trayvon Martin murder, is confirmed to be in a celebrity boxing match with African American artist The Game which will take place on March first. 

Yahoo account information stolen

    Yahoo  has had a breach in their system and reported that some accounts have been compromised.     The number of accounts that have been compromised has not yet been released. Yahoo is urging its users to change their passwords and account information as soon as possible. 

3 year old shot in the head by Italian mafia

   A three year old has been shot in the head in Cosenza, Italy.    The child, Nicola Champolongo, was shot along with his grandfather, Giuseppe Lannicelli, and his grandfathers friend during an apparent Mafia hit.     There are no current suspects in custody for the murders. 

Death penalty for Boston bomber possible

   Feds are seeking the death penalty for Dzhokar Tsarnaev, the surviving Boston bomber.     Last year, explosives went off during the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring 100's.     The other suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was shot dead during the nearly week long chase after the explosions. Dzhokar was captured alive.     Tsarnaev will receive the death penalty if convicted. 

Fire kills 9 and injures 2 in Kentucky

   A fire burned down a house in Greenville, Kentucky belonging to a family of 11 early this morning.     The fire is believed to have killed nine of the family members, where the two others are taken to the hospital for severe burns.    The cause of the fire is currently unknown. 

Obama promises the war to be over by the end of the year

   President Obama discussed a lot of things that people expected him to talk about during the State of the Union speach, but he made a statement that could mean good news to the thousands fighting for our country.  " America's longest war will finally be over"     During his hour long speach, Obama promised that by the end of the year, the war in Afghanistan will finally be over.        

Police shoot 17 year old at a Hawaii high school

   Police shot and injured a 17 year old boy at Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.    Police shot the teen early this morning after reporting he was being "combative" and assaulted an officer in the school with a knife.    The teen was shot in the wrist and went to the hospital under stable conditions.

2014 State of the Union address

   Obama is expected to talk about income inequality, immigration, and other important issues tonight on the State of the Union address.    Obama's approval rating has dropped to 44%.    You can watch a live broadcast of the event here.

BitInstant CEO arrested for money laundering

   The CEO of the website BitInstant, a site where you can purchase Bitcoins with real money, was arrested by U.S Government agents yesterday for money laundering.    Bitcoins are a digital currency that allows the money holder to be anonymous. Since you can't track to who the Bitcoin(s) belongs to, Bitcoins became a popular currency when buying illegal items on the internet.    Bitcoins are the only way to purchase items on a popular hidden website "Silkroad", which specializes in illegal drugs.    The CEO, Charlie Sherm, is also accused of buying drugs via the Silkroad website with Bitcoins.

Rioting in Ukraine to see a possible end

   Ukraine's President  Viktor Yanukovych has accepted his formal resignation of the position.     Mykola Azarov has also offered to step down from the presidence to create a political compromise.    This compromise was created after the Ukrainian parliament annulled the anti-protesting law.    The vote was overwhelming, 362-2 in favor of the appeal.

Teenager attempts suicide by setting himself on fire in school

   An unnamed 16 year old boy attending a high school in Denver, Colorado sets himself on fire in front of students in the cafeteria.    It is unknown why or how he set himself on fire, but it is believed to be a suicide attempt.    A fire extinguisher was used on the boy to put out the fire by a custodian who was on the scene according to police.    The 16 year old is alive but critically injured after the incident. Nobody else was hurt during the event.  

NSA receives personal information as you play "Angry Birds"

   New reports by The New York Times suggest that the NSA is receiving personal information about the user when they use specific apps on their smartphone, including the game "Angry Birds", which has been downloaded more than 2 billion times across smartphones.    With the help of Edward Snowden, it has been discovered that the NSA can receive the age, sex, and location of the user when they play games like "Angry Birds" and social media apps such as Facebook or Twitter on their smartphone.
